Two Punjabi farmers killed in traffic accident on Delhi-Chandigarh highway – Indian news

Two farmers returning from Delhi’s Singhu border were killed in a car accident as a light commercial vehicle hit its tractor trailer on NH-44 (Delhi-Chandigarh highway) near Taraori town of Haryana’s Karnal district on Tuesday morning.

The dead were identified as Gurpreet Singh (24) and Labh Singh (65), residents of Saphera village of Patiala district of Punjab.

Three other farmers from the same village suffered injuries and were hospitalized.

Police said according to the preliminary investigation, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. Tuesday when the vehicle hit the tractor trailer in the back, causing it to overturn on the highway.

While Gurpreet died on the spot, Labh Singh died on the way to hospital. The other farmers were rushed to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Karnal hospital.

Narender Singh, a farmer from Saphera who was also in the trailer, said Gurpreet is single and is the only son of a marginal farmer.

Police said the bodies were sent for a day of death to the Karnal civilian hospital. Statements from the injured farmers were recorded and will act against the unknown driver, police said.
