Bhubaneswar: LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is the proud recipient of the highly prestigious ‘The Greenberg Award – Final Blindness 2020’. The winners were chosen according to the strength of their contributions to remove blindness. Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founding President, LV Prasad Eye Institute received this award in the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ category. LVPEI shares the award and a $ 3 Million award with one additional organization in India.
“I feel humbled and honored to accept this prestigious award on behalf of more than 3000 members at LV Prasad Eye Institute and its many supporters worldwide. Removing avoidable blindness by the year 2020 has been an aspiration of the global eye care community for more than two decades. I want to express our gratitude to Sanford and Susan Greenberg End Blindness Foundation for acknowledging our contribution, ”said delighted Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founding President, LV Prasad Eye Institute.

“Final Blindness” was a movement to eradicate blindness created by Dr. Sanford Greenberg, who himself lost his eyes at the age of 19, and his wife Susan. It was announced in 2012 to recognize the work of the scientific and medical communities that pioneered the fight to end blindness, between then and 2020.
