Barcelona face a really tough test on Wednesday in La Liga while the league leaders Real Sociedad visit the Camp Nou.
Ronald Koeman’s men went back to winning ways last time against Levante, but struggled with that and wasn’t entirely convinced.
Winning against Real Society would be a big boost, but it won’t be easy. Imanol Bailiff’s team has been defeated only once so far this season and has seven wins from its 13 games.
Let’s see how Barcelona could line up:
It’s hard to see Koeman making many, if any, changes to his defense unless he decides that some of his players need a breather, as the game falls in the middle of a busy schedule.
Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo and Oscar Mingueza are all available to come in if needed, although it looks like Koeman will stay with the same back line that held a clean sheet against Levante.
Koeman may make changes later on and will likely need to be with his team again leaving too much space in midfield against Levante. Strangely enough Miralem Pjanic has made just one La Liga start so far, but could count on Wednesday.
Frenkie de Jong looks set to continue after a brilliant display against Levante, which could mean Sergio Busquets is seated. Carles Alena is another option, but seems to have been forgotten again lately.
Lionel Messi scored the only goal of the game last time, but Koeman will need more of his attack against Real Society. Pedri could return in the starting XI after leaving the bench for the last time.
The lack of width remains a problem, with Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele out, but it seems unlikely that Konrad de la Fuente or Francisco Trincao will start. Riqui Puig is another player that fans would like to see, but probably not.
Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann look like some beginners, while Martin Braithwaite could also continue an attack with Philippe Coutinho falling to the bench.
Possible XI: Ter Stegen; Dest, Araujo, Lenglet; Alba; Pjanic, De Jong; Messi, Griezmann, Pedri; Braithwaite.
