The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected us all. And reports suggest that mental health cases exploded dramatically during this period especially among adolescents and young adults for reasons such as remote digital study, the indefinite closure of schools, restrictions on outdoor activities and sports and related problems with parents or at home. To address this important issue, it will discuss how to approach and address mental health issues that children may face and normalize conversations on the topic.

Among child psychiatrists and school principals, the panel will include writer-director Gauri Shinde and author-producer Tahira Kashyap Khurrana. A mother to two children, Tahira made the most of the blockade, spending some quality time with them and participating in painting sessions with them.

Tahira, who went to social media to talk about the story of battling breast cancer, will talk at length about news to her children and explain to them about the challenges she has experienced in dealing with her health. She will also highlight the importance of parents creating a safe space at home for their children to express themselves openly and how necessary it is for adults to be there for children.

Gauri has won rave reviews for Kara Zindagi, a film about mental health. As part of the discussion, she will talk about the idea behind filming and the response she received after its publication. She will also express her opinion on the difficulty of giving therapy and how movies and social media today have shaped our perception of mental health.

Expecting to be part of the panel, Tahira says, “Mind Your Mind is an important enough forum to address the mental health issue of children and adolescents. Unfortunately, mental health is something considered taboo and conveniently rubbed under the rug. Somehow, no one wants to. to believe that even our children can suffer from depression and anxiety. I believe it is important to create an open discussion about mental health, especially as the cases exploded tremendously during the blockade. I am honored to have been invited to participate in the panel. “
