China continues to arrest, imprison Uyghurs despite international reaction, experts say

LONDON: The Communist Party of China didn’t even do tiny tweaks in its broader, worse agenda of systematic removal ethnic minority Uyghurs from their northwestern Xinjiang province, experts and Uyghur Muslims living in various parts of the world said.
Various testimonials an appearance from a non-Chinese world reveals this Beijing in fact intensified its operations by bringing in more people internment camps.
People who managed to escape the tyranny say all their family members left behind now serve rigorous prison sentences of 13 to 15 years.
Nursiman Abdureshid, an Uyghur Muslim who moved to Turkey after she could not find ways to achieve higher education in China, said her family was put behind bars for the simple reason that she managed to flee the country.
She has not spoken to even one family member for more than three years. “At the time I didn’t realize they were being taken to concentration camps, but when I heard thousands of testimonies from people living abroad when they talked about their families, I started to worry. But even today I have no information. In 2018, I received a message. of authorities that my family was arrested.I continued to write to Chinese officials and human rights organizations but did not receive any information. In June 2020, I received a phone call from the Chinese embassy in Turkey and they told me that my family is in prison, ”Nursiman said speaking at a virtual event organized by the UK Open Forum.
While Nursiman’s father and mother were sentenced to 16 and 13 years respectively, her two brothers will also serve a stringent prison sentence of two decades.
She says not only her, but thousands of children are left alone with their entire families in the internment camps. Another Uyghur Muslim, Rahime Mahmut, who has lived in the UK for the past two decades, said it was precisely the rapidly growing violent atmosphere in the region that caused her to flee the country.
She said authorities are always monitoring her family and now her brothers have been put behind bars.
Rahime Mahmut, Project Director, World Uyghur Congress in the UK, said, “The disaster never stopped after the CPC occupied the region in 1949. They promised us autonomy in 1955 but it was never honored. But the situation really got worse after the student movement. I could not move to my country in the past two decades but at least I have talked to my brothers and sisters. But one day it was interrupted. The last conversation I had with my brother was in January 2017. Every story in the area is more terrible than the other This is genocide.
In addition to sending Uyghurs to prisons, a systematic effort has been launched to control the birth rate in the region. Experts say it is an alternative way of ethnic cleansing.
“Contraception or forced abortions aimed at preventing the population of an ethnic group continue and the evidence exists. It is also possible that the torture is aimed at destroying the Uyghurs in the region,” said Michael Polak, a member of the association’s executive committee. human rights lawyers.
He said that under the convention on genocide, states can sue a case against a state (China) by saying that the state commits genocide and the international court of justice decides.
However, he added, “The countries are hesitant because of China’s economic power. Islamic organizations have done very little. China is also pressuring states around the world not to talk about what is happening.”
The United States, he said, is the only country that has taken some substantive action against the Chinese. They placed restrictions on people involved in or supporting the crime against the Uyghurs.
Experts say the United States could do it because it has greater geopolitical influence than China. No other country has such power, so dare not endure the obvious, inhuman abominations committed by it.
