West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday challenged the BJP to change the national anthem. He was referring to a letter written by BJP MP Subramaniam Swamy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He told a gathering that refugee colonies are recognized in West Bengal, the NRC, NPR or CAA should not be intimidated. Looking at the BJP, he said that the saffron party has created a new religion of riot and hatred in the community. The BJP can never find a lasting solution to the Gorkhaland problem, only the Trinamool Congress can do that.
Referring to a recent letter sent by BJP MP Subramaniam Swamy to the Prime Minister to change the national anthem, he said that the people of the state would respond appropriately if such an ‘adventure’ took place. “They want to change the history of our country and now they want to change the national anthem,” he said.
He on Tuesday accused the central government of interfering in state jurisdiction by inviting IPS officers to work with them. Banerjee challenged the central government to implement presidential rule in the state and criticized West Bengal for trying to transform it into a “riot-affected” Gujarat.
He said BJP national president JP Nadda’s convoy had not been attacked and worried about why the “guilty criminals” were with him. Banerjee said, “If the BJP and the central government think of intimidating us by bringing central power here and transferring state workers, they are thinking wrong.” The center is calling our officers … no one wanted to hurt them (Nadda) or their coffee. “
He said, “Why did his coffee have so many cars?” Why were the convicted criminals with him? The goons who broke the idol of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar last year were also with Nadda … People were angry to see such goons walking free… I challenge the Center to impose presidential rule in Bengal. “
