Kia Motors entered Indian car market earlier last year and quickly became popular. There the first Seltos product became an immediate success due to its bold looks, feature loaded interiors and various engine and transmission options. The same happened with their newly launched compact SUV Sonet. It is a sub-4-meter SUV that competes with Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 in the segment. It is a feature loaded SUV that offers several segmental first features, but the basic variant is not loaded at all. That is, if aftermarket modifications came into the scene. Here we have a basic trimming Kia Sonet that is modified with features like Speed Rule in it.
The video was uploaded by Tarun Shandilya on his YouTube channel. The video shows all the changes or modifications made to the SUV. Front of the car looks in stock. The owner didn’t do wild fashions outside. The grille and headlights remain temporary. The fog lamp is still missing in the car. Moving on to the side profile, the owner installed a new set of aftermarket alloy wheels. The tires were also changed. In addition, there is a rain visor, extra trim on door handles and around a headlight.
Moving in, the entire cabin has also been upgraded. It now gets black seats. It matches the black theme of the cabin, which is broken by brushed aluminum inserts around AC triggers. Because this is the basic variant, it doesn’t get a touchscreen infotainment system, but they do provide it. The aftermarket Android touch screen fits the dashboard perfectly. Other modification made to the SUV includes 7D floor mat, roof mounted sunglasses with lamps and so on.
The main highlight of this Sonet modification is that it is a basic variant petrol variant and it gets speed. Owner installed Kia’s original steering wheel control to control the touch screen and set speed. The touch screen infotainment also supports voice commands such as raising and lowering the volume. The speed control is the prominent feature in this modification. This is probably the first basic model Kia Sonet in India when it comes to getting this feature. The suitability and finish of the work looks very neat.
The vlogger even shows how the speed works in this basic Sonet model. According to the video, the approximate cost to make this modification in basic model Kia Sonet was 70,000 Rs, which does not take much into account the fact that people spend a large amount for that purpose.
Kia Sonet is a sub-4-meter SUV that is available with three engine options and various transmissions. The first is the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine, which is available with a manual gearbox. The 1.5-liter diesel engine is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. Last but not least is the 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, which generates 120 Ps and 172 Nm of torque. This engine is available with 7-speed DCT and iMT gearbox.
